AWE is headed to Asia October 17-18. We’ve partnered up with ARinChina to create the largest AR event in China and it is all taking place in Western China’s Silicon Valley – Xi’an.
Xi’an is an ancient city in China with a history of over 3,100 years. It is most known for the Terracotta Army, a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. The Army was discovered on 29 March 1974 to the east of Xi’an in Shaanxi province by farmers digging a water well.
But along with its ancient roots, Xi’an is also the industrial, commercial and financial center for Northwestern China and is the third industrial city in China outside of Beijing and Shanghai. It is also the the most important R&D, education, national defence and high tech center in China with over 3,000 R&D centers and institutes, more than 130 national labs, and 627 research institutions. There are also more than 70 Universities with electronical discipline in Xi’an University which in turn sees 60,000 annual electronical graduates.
Xi’an is also the home of the very first International Augmented Reality Industrial Park in China which is where AWE Asia will take place. The AR Park is situated in Xi’an’s Software Park, a professional area developed in 1998 dedicated to the development and scale of software services. The Software Park is home to 90% of all enterprises engaged in software in Xi’an. By the end of 2014, the Software Park has 1,620 registered enterprises including Samsung, IBM, Siemens, Qualcomm, Oracle, Microsoft, Baidu, Lenovo, ZTE and Intel.
The International Augmented Reality Park is planned to launch in the high-tech Development Zone of the Software Park. The park will support enterprises, institutions, laboratory based research and application development all within the field of augmented reality. In the fall of 2015, phase 1 of this park which is the exhibition center will be complete and will be used for AWE Asia. Phase 2 of the AR park will include the construction of 3D scanning, 3D printing, motion capture equipment, rendering farm, distributed storage, broadband resources and other hardware and software supporting services.
