Retail is a sector which has seen a lot of innovation using augmented reality. At AWE in Santa Clara this year we hosted Ari Popper, CEO of SciFutures who was behind the concept of Lowe’s Holoroom. In the Holoroom, customers were able to visualize their home using augmented reality to help them better make decisions in planning renovation projects.

Another fantastic example of AR’s use in retail is from China’s largest food e-commerce retailer, Yihaodian. In order to better compete with brick and mortar retail chains, Yihaodian leveraged mobile AR to create the world’s first augmented realty supermarkets in “blank spaces” around China. For mobile users, these spaces come to life to allow for a full shopping experience complete with a “virtual shopping cart” to initiate the transaction. The markets were 1,200 square meters of space and were stocked with 1,000 items at once giving customers plenty of choice.

Ogilvy Asia put together a great video on the concept which you can see in action below

Augmented World Expo (AWE) has partnered with China’s largest AR organization, ARinChina, to create a two-day event on October 17-18 in “Silicon Valley of Western China” – Xi’an Software park. It will feature 40 speakers, 100 leading AR companies and over 1000 professional attendees from around the world. Join us www.aweasia.com
