AWE Recap: Big announcements from Google and Apple in VR?

The AWE recap is back. We look back at the biggest news in augmented and virtual reality to keep you in the loop.

Augmented Reality

AR industry leaders establish the Augmented Reality for Enterprise Alliance (AREA). Aiming to expand and mature the augmented reality enterprise ecosystem, AR leaders such as Atheer Labs, APX Labs, Augmate, DAQRI and more have formed an alliance.

InAIR brings AR to the TV. SeeSpace is bringing its non-disruptive augmentation technology to the living room screen after raising over $170,000+ on Kickstarter.

Virtual Reality

The first eye-tracking VR headset, FOVE, launches its Kickstarter campaign. FOVE’s VR head mounted display is unlike the others. It uses eye-tracking technology to reduce motion sickness, act as a controller and provide a more “human” experience to VR.

Google I/O expected to include VR announcements. Hot off the heels of moving the lead designer of Google Search to Google Cardboard, rumor has it that Google will be making announcements in VR at it’s upcoming I/O next week.

Is Apple getting in the VR space? Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster has ‘thrown in the towel” on the expecting an Apple TV and now predicts that Apple may be looking further into the future of entertainment with projects using augmented and virtual reality.
